Serie A šŸ‡®šŸ‡¹

Serie A has been a breathe of fresh air this season with some great games (4 goals and 3 red cards in a single game last week). This week was no different with some surprising results across the table.

Napoli maintained their unbeaten start to the season beating AC Milan 2-1 at the San Siro. Whilst the overall stats show an even game, Milan will feel very hard done by to leave the game with zero points having hit the bar late on and having an xG of 0.79 better than the visitors. The game ended AC Milanā€™s own 22 game unbeaten run.

Earlier in the day, Roma saw a similar fate when Atalanta beat them 1-0 having only 1 shot all match. Mourinho managed to get himself sent off again.

(Something about when they won't let you back in the club)

Since coming back from China, Arnoutovic, having apparently rejected Juventus and Manchester United in the summer for Bologna, continues to make light-work of Serie A with 6 goals and assists so far this season.

Udinese made it five wins in five after beating Inter 3-1. Simone Inzaghi took a zen approach to the loss by suggesting his team need ā€˜to meditate on this bad defeatā€™.

The last time a team that wasnā€™t one of Juve, Inter, Roma, or Milan won Serie A was Lazio in 1991.

The big result of the day was Juventus. Juve suffered a 1-0 loss to newly promoted, Berlusconi backed Monza, who managed to win their first game of the season after Berlusconi sacked the previous manager Giovanni Stroppa.

Silvio had apparently asked the previous manager to change formation and go longer with the goalkeeper, not appreciating the modern approach from Stroppa.

Never one to take credit for something he said after the win:

ā€œThis team has great potential and didnā€™t show it in the first few weeks of the season because it played the wrong formation. Beating Juventus is the best way to start our new journey. Iā€™d say the Berlusconi cure works.ā€

Calls for Allegriā€™s head ringing around online and in the stadium after only 2 wins so far this season.

Fans ambushed Juventusā€™ chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene calling for the sacking only for his to respond with ā€œonly if you pay for his replacementā€. Not exactly the ringing endorsement youā€™d want but at least heā€™s not telling you what formation to play.

(Berlusconi has previously sacked Allegri himself during his time at AC)

Juventus are currently suffering from the Champions League paradox, most succinctly put in the Athletic:
