Afternoon, football fans! We're taking a look at the newly appointed Brighton & Hove manager and we get our weekly La Liga update. It's not pretty (the La Liga update).
Roberto De Zerbi named new Brighton & Hove Manager
Brighton named their new coach last night. Roberto De Zerbi previously managed Sassuolo, overachieving with back-to-back eighth placed finishes, and narrowly missing out on European football before joining Shakhtar Donetsk in 2020.
De Zerbi left the club earlier this year due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Having been linked with several top flight jobs across Europe, Brighton were keen to lock him in given there’s no need to buy him out of an existing contract.
They’ve signed him to a 4 year contract, repeating their commitment to getting in young and exciting managers with free-flowing attacking football.
This is off the back of Chelsea taking on Graham Potter on an uncharacteristically long contract (five years) and paying Brighton over ÂŁ21 million for the pleasure.

Arsenal and Arteta regained their position on the top of the table. Whilst yet to be taken seriously as title contender, Arsenal have come round to winning over most sceptics and opponents.
Thomas Frank sang their praises and talked up individual players...
“Especially Jesus up there; wow what a player! He gets the confidence there. Saka and Martinelli, one year older. Odegaard, what a player. And then I must say, Saliba he is going to be a full international player with France.”
Everton and Lampard got a much needed first win of the season, following 4 draws in a row with Maupay scoring his first goal for the club. Taking them from 17th to 13th in the league
La Liga update
La Liga spent the majority of this weekend marred in racism after Atletico took back-to-back losses yesterday.
Atletico fans were caught singing racist chants about Vinicius Jr before the Madrid Derby yesterday evening, before getting beaten at home 2-1 by their Madrid neighbours.
Earlier in the week, Pedro Bravo, president of the Association of Spanish Agents, compared Vinicius Jr's dancing celebrations after scoring to the behaviour of a monkey, arguing the forward was not respecting his opponents and "should stop playing the monkey."
Vinicius put out a statement shortly after calling the racism out, with the English translation here.
“The happiness of a black Brazilian victorious in Europe annoys them much more.”
Bravo’s racism was followed with universal condemnation, with players across Europe showing their support to Vinicius, in game, with celebrations like below, or via text, like Richarlison texting Pedro Bravo to call him “a shit”.

League
La Liga has begun the way you’d expect, with Real on top after making it 6 wins in 6 after that Atletico win.
Barcelona, hot on their heels in second, with Lewandowski staying as the league's top goalscorer after making it 8 goals in 6 games with a brace against Eche.
Griezmann managed to get his first start this season for Atletico after taking “legal advice” over his loan deal from Barcelona. The Frenchman's two-year loan spell reportedly includes a €40m obligation to buy if Griezmann plays more than 45 minutes in 14 games for Atletico this season.
Girona, newly promoted, and part of City Football Group, have made a good start to their third outing in La Liga having managed to get two wins and a draw so far this season. At the other side of the table, Sevilla (15th) will be happy taking a point against Villareal (6th) following back-to-back defeats.
